Agriculture is consistently ranked as one of the most dangerous occupations in the U.S. according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics and the National Safety Council. In 2022, the industry averaged 18.6 deaths per 100,000 workers – nearly 5X the national average for other careers.

As we celebrate National Safety Month this June, it’s an ideal time for employers and workers in the agriculture industry to refocus on elevating safety measures. Nationwide has a new program called Every STEP Counts to help employers identify and close potential gaps in their worker safety plans. Laramie Sandquist, Risk Management leader for Nationwide Agribusiness, joins us to discuss the key components to building a safer workplace and fostering a culture of safety.
