(Washington, DC) — A report says the U.S. has been actively reaching out to China to start trade negotiations. That’s according to Chinese state media. It comes as President Donald Trump has said talks are already underway, which China has refuted and said it will only start trade talks if the 145-percent tariff against them is lifted.

In an interview this week ABC News, President Trump said China deserves the 145-percent tariff placed against them, and he doesn’t believe they will pass along higher prices to U.S. consumers. President Trump says China will “probably will eat” U.S. tariffs. The President said China has been ripping us off “like nobody’s ever ripped us off,” and making a trillion dollars in the process. Trump added since he became President, gas is cheaper and grocery prices are lower.

Meanwhile, White House trade representative Jamieson Greer said deals with other trading partners are expected to be finalized in the coming weeks.
