WASHINGTON — On Wednesday morning, House Agriculture Committee Ranking Member Angie Craig (MN-02) released the below statement regarding the decision by Agriculture Secretary to partially reopen Farm Service Agency offices after keeping them closed for 21 days due to the Republican government shutdown.

“I am glad the administration is finally doing right by America’s farmers by partially opening FSA offices, though I question why the administration waited so long and made this decision only after putting farmers through three weeks of uncertainty. Now it’s time they do right by seniors, children and veterans and utilize the SNAP contingency fund to ensure benefits can be provided for November.”

Ranking Member Craig also talked with Jesse Allen on the Wednesday episode of Agriculture of America about a wide-range of other topics including trade/tariffs, the government shutdown, beef price plans and more. When asked about the administration’s rumored plans for beef prices, Ranking Member Craig had some pointed comments.

“Well, look, I, you know, the administration didn’t reach out to me and ask what I thought of this because I would have told them that this is the damn stupidest thing I’ve ever heard in my entire life,” according to Craig. “The idea that you’re going to continue with, you know, additional, you know, ag groups, prop up a key competitor. I just, you know, it’s again, I mean, I don’t know what the hell they’re thinking, to be honest with you, Jesse.”

She added “I, you know, again, I, you know, I encourage the Biden administration to go find more export markets for America’s farmers. I’ve encouraged the Trump administration to stop, you know, pissing off all of our, you know, competitors, you know, friends over across the country right now. I just, honestly, I can’t explain what they’re doing and thinking, but everything they’re doing just continues to worsen the environment in farm country.”
