The National Corn Growers Association sent a letter to the White House highlighting the severe economic pressure created by soaring fertilizer and input costs. According to the letter, these elevated expenses are creating a dire situation for corn producers across the country.
“Unfortunately, the combination of low corn prices, trade uncertainty, and consistently high costs for fertilizers and inputs, including relevant countervailing duties, has resulted in a calamitous environment for farmers who are trying to plan for harvest and next season,” the letter said. “When imports are subjected to antidumping or countervailing duties, the resulting duty contributes to higher prices that are ultimately paid by farmers.”
The letter notes that essential fertilizers for corn production have surged in price, with phosphates alone rising by over 60 percent over the past decade. Meanwhile, corn prices are languishing, having fallen 14 percent since the start of 2025.
